This morning all signs of last nights storm had disappeared apart from some rather large puddles and muddy paths. We were offered breakfast outside on the veranda which we accepted.
After breakfast this morning Rae took us to the lunch buffet where we selected items to be packed into our lunch box. There was a huge selection including rice salad, pasta salad, samosas, chicken, pizza, sandwiches where you selected a filling, fruit, snacks including crisps and popcorn, cake, biscuits and fruit juice. Amazing.

Today Alladin wanted to do a game drive in the South Eastern area of the Serengeti so that’s what we did and it turned out to be a great day.
Early on we saw this lovely chap. Pete thought we should introduce him to the female we had seen late yesterday afternoon.
Other fun sightings this morning were a cheetah mum and 2 cubs playing in the grass, they eventually walked further away but into shorter grass. Annoyingly the 3 of them never stayed together so a family group photo was impossible!!
Other interesting sightings before lunch were some rutting gazelles, hartebeest, and elephants. We also managed to get a photo of a slender mongoose which we were really pleased with.
It had been a busy morning and about 12.30 we stopped under a tree for lunch watching some elephants who were near by. As we sat there the elephants walked closer and one in partÃcular seemed to really enjoy scratching various parts of his body on our tree. Alladin was not impressed as his open window was right in line with the elephant!
This afternoon we were in for a treat. I should explain that Pete had told Alladin that on this trip he would like to see a leopard “doing something” not just sat in tree. So after lunch Alladin told us there was a report of a leopard sighting.
When we turned up there were already about 8 cars watching. Luckily as we stopped the leopard moved so he was directly in front of us and literally in the next minute stuck his head down into a hole and caught a rock hyrax. He then walked straight past us and off into the long grass. We couldn’t have timed it better.
Once the leopard had walked off with his dinner all the other cars tried to follow him but we told Alladin not to bother as we had some really great photos and were very unlikely to get anything better. After this we had some more nice sightings including a secretary bird drinking from a puddle.
As it got later in the afternoon we could see several areas of the park where it looked like it was raining pretty heavily. Alladin therefore suggested it was probably time to head back to camp. We had had a great day so we were more than happy with this.
Once back at camp we stopped for a drink in the bar before heading back to our tent for showers before dinner, which was again very good.
