This morning we were packed and ready to leave by 8am. We reassured the staff that our early departure was nothing to do with them but merely our preference to move to the central area.
In reality the camp was now very quiet as was the whole northern area. I think most camps were getting ready to close down.
So today was essentially still a game drive be it that some of it would be on the major route between the 2 areas.
As it turned out it was actually a great day for game viewing and in particular lions.
However before we saw any lions we saw this adorable ostrich family.
We saw our first young lion of the day walking down the hillside towards us. She then crossed the road and led us to a group of about 6 more including 3 cubs sat under a tree. They were slightly obscured by the undergrowth but we got some good views of them as they moved around. They had killed a warthog and the cubs were now fighting over the carcass.
We stayed with this group for about half an hour with only one other car. A lovely start to the morning.
Our next lions were a mating pair sat under a tree. Apparently lions can mate up to every 15 minutes. We didn’t have to wait long.
Close by we then found more lions with cubs, probably part of the same pride.
Our final lion of the day was this rather lovely lady sunning herself on the rocks
So we would now be staying at Tanzania Bush Camp - Central for the next 4 nights. On arrival we were welcomed by Rae the camp manager, given the standard briefing along with a fruit juice and cold towel and then shown to our tent - Tembo.

We had a shower and unpacked. At both Bush camps you do have to tell the staff when you want a shower and they then come and drain all the cold water out of the system so that you get hot water immediately, but unlike bucket showers the hot water doesn’t run out.
During this time it began to rain really heavily and we had thunder and lightning. Luckily it all stopped before dinner. The camp was very busy tonight and dinner was buffet service. Rae took us up to the buffet and explained what everything was before we helped ourselves. She did this at breakfast and dinner every day. And even though it was busy I have to say Rae and her staff managed everything really well constantly restocking the buffet with food and plates etc. The food was all hot and a good selection. I actually tend to prefer buffet meals at the camps, so you can actually just take what you want rather than being given a plateful of food which is too much and leads to wastage.
